The History of Reno Diagnostic Centers
In December of 1985, Reno Diagnostic Centers began operation. This date was significant because, by opening our doors, we also opened the doors to a higher standard of medical imaging technology by introducing the first MRI scanner to Nevada. Since that time, there have been other firsts that we are extremely proud of.
Being first is a wonderful thing. However, there is a great responsibility that goes along with being first. At Reno Diagnostic Centers, we don’t take that responsibility lightly. We won’t introduce a new imaging technology to the area without ensuring that the technology is sound and that it also provides a significant benefit to you.
It is our ongoing mission to set the benchmark in medical imaging in the state of Nevada.
That is the reason for our Quality Assurance Program. This cross-training program focuses on staff education. In medical imaging, education is paramount. Rest assured, our staff is highly trained and they are continually being updated on the latest procedures. However, our Quality Assurance Program takes this training a step further. Its focus is cross training. Radiologists train technologists. Technologists train clerical and scheduling personnel. Our entire staff educates referring office staffs about our procedures and support services.
For you, our patients, this means you will always receive the best technology and the best care available.
Introduced the first Open MRI scanner to Northern Nevada.
Introduced the first dedicated Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging system to Northern Nevada. PET is critical in the area of cancer diagnosis.
Introduced the first digital mammography system to northern Nevada. Digital Mammography offers women another option to conventional mammography.
Introduced HealthCheck – a comprehensive elective exam that determines risk for heart disease, strokes, cancer and/or aneurysm.
Implemented comprehensive Virtual Colonoscopy (VC) exams.
Introduced the first Digital Mammography with CAD (Computer Aided Diagnosis) to the Reno/Sparks area.
Implemented a new Open MRI scanner. The Hitatchi scanner improved image quality that allowed us the ability to scan anatomy usually reserved for 1.5T magnet systems, such as high-resolution MR angiography, pituitary, IAC’s and small joint MRIs, all within nearly half the time of our previous Open scans.
Introduced the first 3T MRI to northern Nevada. The great appeal of 3T MRI is improvement in image quality and resolution, while providing faster scan times as that of a 1.5 magnet. The 3T MRI enables radiologists to improve the diagnosis of a wide range of conditions including cardiac and vascular disease; stroke; abdominal and brain disorders; and musculoskeletal conditions in the knee, shoulder and other joints.
Introduced the region’s first PET Fusion. The ability to fuse (merge) Prior or Future CT or MRI scans from ANY location for the sharpest image quality to detect cancers. Improved patient comfort with ONE stick, less radiation, and less expensive and more accurate than CT/PET.
Implemented Comprehensive Body Fat Analysis Testing. This quick, easy, non-invasive and PAINLESS exam is performed in a comfortable, private and confidential setting. It is the most accurate form of Body Fat Percentage Testing Available.
Implemented a new 64-Slice GE Spiral CT. This new technology’s speed and precision allows us to perform Coronary CT Angiograms. A minimally invasive procedure, designed to view both the calcified and non-calcified plaque in your coronary arteries. This study provides an accurate alternative to Traditional Coronary Angiography without the invasiveness and risk.
MRI Mammography (MRM), also referred to as Breast MRI, is ideal for patients with suspected breast pathology or at high risk of breast cancer. Performed exclusively on our 3T MRI scanner, MRM shows the extent of breast cancer disease for better surgical and treatment planning. MRM is also better able to detect breast cancer in women who are at high risk of developing breast cancer.
Now 100% digital – paperless and filmless in all imaging – eliminating lost films, and providing immediate and secure online access for referring physician offices to patient images and reports through PACS – picture archiving and communication system.
Became preferred provider for Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield
Exclusive provider of The Lowest Dose CT available in northern Nevada. Our 64-slice CT scanner features ASIR (Adaptive Statistical Iterative reconstruction). This software allows us to provide the same image quality at up to 40% LESS RADIATION than our already low dose and best practice CT protocol. Patients with concerns about radiation can be confident they are receiving less radiation without any compromise on diagnostic quality.
Celebrated our 25th Anniversary. In honor of opening in 1985, RDC put many area physician’s offices to an 80’s style fitness challenge. We returned to a time where iPods were boom boxes and jackets were members only.
Launched a new and completely redesigned website. The new website was designed to educate a variety of audiences, including health care professionals and the patient population that seeks to better understand the imaging procedure or treatment they are undergoing and information about the radiologist who will be interpreting their exam.
Installed hologic mammography scanner at the Eureka Ave location.
Installed hologic mammography scanner at the Sierra Rose location.
Introduced new Siemens 1.5T Wide Bore MRI. It boasts of high field strength imaging and a 70cm bore (versus the standard 60cm), which is ideal for larger patients, or those who are claustrophobic.
The first to offer 3D Mammography to the northern Nevada area.
Upgraded the Sierra Rose MRI to a Siemens 1.5T Aera scanner.
