Also known as CAT (Computed Axial Tomography), the CT scan is a special type of X-ray that produces 2 and/or 3 dimensional images of the body. Invented in 1972, it took 30 seconds to take 1 (slice) image, and provided very crude images.

CT technology has progressed over the years. At Reno Diagnostic Centers, our Multi-Slice, Spiral CT scanner has the ability to do multiple slices simultaneously in less than half a second.

CT scanning allows your physician to see inside your body without the need to operate because it creates a high resolution, 3-D image of the body. The images produced are similar to what a surgeon would see when performing an operation. Because CT images are more detailed than the images produced by conventional X-Rays, there is greater accuracy and an ability to detect small abnormalities that might have otherwise gone undetected. It is fast, effective and the risks are low.
